Astronomy. Better with Beer.
We are a collection of astrophysicists from Yale hosting public, informal events at local bars. Come join us to hear talks about our universe, enjoy local beer and pizza, and win some space-themed prizes!

For those newer to the fold, Astronomy on Tap is a free event hosted in cities around the country (and world), which brings together two awesome things: Astronomy, and beer! Usually organized by members of an academic institution's Astronomy / Astrophysics / Physics department, AoT events — which are held at local bars and pubs — feature scientists discussing new exciting news in astronomy, their own research, and more. Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions, as well as to compete for some fun astro-themed prizes via trivia. The New Haven edition of AoT is organized by graduate (PhD) students and postdoctoral students in the Yale Astronomy Department, and typically features talks by Yale Astro faculty, postdocs, and graduate students.  

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few of the common questions we get regarding our AoT events. 
  • Does the event cost money? Do I need to register or obtain a ticket to get in? AoT events are always free, and currently, we have no pre-registration required -- just show up!
  • How early should I arrive? We typically see the back room at BAR fill up to capacity, (that is, standing room only). If you'd like to order pizza and want to have a table to sit at, we recommend arriving ~15-30 min before the start of the event, as it fills up quickly from then on.
  • Are there any free drink / food vouchers? Nope - our event is free, but if you would like food/drinks, you will have to purchase them from BAR.

  • How frequent are AoT events? It varies, depending on the availability of BAR, as well as a slate of speakers, but generally AoT events occur roughly 1-2 times per semester (so once every 3-4 months).
  • Do you have any cool Astro on Tap swag? We do! Currently, we have a selection of Astronomy on Tap stickers that we are selling (usually at the front-desk table in the back room at BAR), as well as awesome thematic beer glasses. We hope to bring in other cool stuff soon! We accept cash and credit, or venmo.
  • Can I donate to support AoT? Absolutely! We appreciate any and all donations, which helps us keep this event running, source better prizes for trivia, etc. We usually have a donation box open in the back of the room, and also accept venmo and credit cards.
